Wrapping text is an essential feature in any text editor, but the feature may be hiding somewhere you aren’t looking for it. Here’s how to wrap text in Notepad++.
Wrap text in Notepad++ is called word wrap
Some text editors have an option called wrap text. If you are looking for a feature called the same thing in Notepad++, you’ll be looking for a while and might not find it because in Notepad++, it’s called something else. Notepad++ calls it word wrap. To toggle word wrap, navigate to the View menu, and choose word wrap. When you toggle that setting, Notepad++ will wrap text for you, or stop wrapping text.
The word wrap option is about 1/3 of the way from the top of the view menu, 10 items down. Note that it doesn’t have any options you need to configure. The setting is just a simple toggle.
Assigning a keyboard shortcut to word wrap
Note that Notepad++’s word wrap or wrap text option doesn’t have a keyboard shortcut assigned to it by default. You can customize that if you wish. It might be worth doing if you find yourself toggling word wrap on a frequent basis. To do this, navigate to Settings, then Shortcut Mapper. From there you can assign an available key combination to word wrap. Or switch it from another one that makes more sense to you. Search for word wrap in the filter in the dialog box, if you don’t want to hunt for it among the 336 commands in Notepad++.
So that’s how you wrap text in Notepad++. Just remember it’s in the view menu, it’s called word wrap, and it’s 1/3 of the way down.
