This past weekend was the annual Scouting for Food drive. My oldest son participated, and I was proud of him because he complained a lot less than the older kids.
In fact, he was perfectly happy running up and down people’s driveways, picking up bags, and putting them in the trunk of our car as I drove 3 miles per hour with the hazard lights on.
But somewhere along the way, something started to smell funny.
When we met up with the rest of our pack, we started unloading bags. In the middle of the mess, I found a couple of blue grocery bags from a local chain, Shop ‘N Save. Something about them wasn’t right. For one thing, there weren’t any cans in them. Whatever was in them was soft and kind of squishy.
So I opened the bags, which were tied shut. I immediately wished I hadn’t. Diapers! Dirty diapers!
I tied the bags shut again and walked briskly to the nearest dumpster, where I deposited those dirty diapers.
So my son stole someone’s dirty diapers on Saturday morning.
