I can tell you what it’s like. We’ve had some highlights,

My reaction to the Royals’ trade for James Shields https://dfarq.homeip.net/my-reaction-to-the-royals-trade-for-james-shields/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=my-reaction-to-the-royals-trade-for-james-shields Tue, 11 Dec 2012 01:01:45 +0000 https://dfarq.homeip.net/?p=6163 I don’t write about baseball all that often anymore, because to do a good job of it day to day you have to immerse yourself in it more than I’m willing or able to do, but I enjoy baseball. Bye bye, Zack Greinke https://dfarq.homeip.net/bye-bye-zack-greinke/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=bye-bye-zack-greinke Tue, 21 Dec 2010 04:55:37 +0000 https://dfarq.homeip.net/?p=2778 My favorite Kansas City Royal is still George Brett. It should be Zack Greinke, but it can’t be anymore. He’ll be pitching Opening Day for the Milwaukee Brewers. Part of me knew this was inevitable. Mostly I’m glad he won’t

And now, a few words about the first-place Kansas City Royals https://dfarq.homeip.net/and-now-a-few-words-about-the-first-place-kansas-city-royals/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=and-now-a-few-words-about-the-first-place-kansas-city-royals Wed, 09 Apr 2008 02:05:03 +0000 https://dfarq.homeip.net/?p=1732 I don't think I've been able to write those words since 2003, so I'd better use them when I can.

This team has been making me eat my words almost non-stop since 1986. Aside from briefly recapturing the magic in the summer of '03, the only highlights I can think of revolve around the twilight of George Brett's career. Kids born the year Brett retired are eligible to get their learner's permits this year.

Rebuilding in Kansas City https://dfarq.homeip.net/rebuilding-in-kansas-city/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rebuilding-in-kansas-city Fri, 17 Dec 2004 02:42:06 +0000 https://dfarq.homeip.net/?p=1386 Well, the Royals finally did something today.

They traded aging catcher Benito Santiago to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a pitching prospect, and they traded a pitching prospect to the Atlanta Braves for Eli Marrero.

It's a start.

Is there hope in Kansas City for baseball? https://dfarq.homeip.net/is-there-hope-in-kansas-city-for-baseball/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=is-there-hope-in-kansas-city-for-baseball https://dfarq.homeip.net/is-there-hope-in-kansas-city-for-baseball/#comments Tue, 07 Sep 2004 22:45:19 +0000 https://dfarq.homeip.net/?p=1296 I spent some time in Kansas City this weekend. If I had any doubts this season, where the Royals went from favorites to win the division to worst team in the league in a matter of about a week, had eroded fan support, that doubt is gone now.

So now what?

I miss my rivalry https://dfarq.homeip.net/i-miss-my-rivalry/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=i-miss-my-rivalry https://dfarq.homeip.net/i-miss-my-rivalry/#comments Sat, 26 Jun 2004 02:23:35 +0000 https://dfarq.homeip.net/?p=1252 So, the St. Louis Cardinals are traveling across the state for a much-anticipated series with the Kansas City Royals. Even when the series was meaningless, it could always be counted on for at least a few potshots, or something.

Not this year. I was born a Royals fan and I'll die a Royals fan, but this year, I find myself agreeing with the St. Louis columnist.

More of the same. https://dfarq.homeip.net/more-of-the-same/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=more-of-the-same https://dfarq.homeip.net/more-of-the-same/#comments Mon, 15 Oct 2001 06:33:17 +0000 https://dfarq.homeip.net/?p=618 As I watched my Royals' parent club, the Oakland Athletics, play the Yankees, I burned a CD under Linux for the first time. I honestly don't remember when I last used my old Sony CD-R (it's so old it's a 2X burner!) but that was under Windows.

A nice Labor Day. https://dfarq.homeip.net/a-nice-labor-day/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=a-nice-labor-day https://dfarq.homeip.net/a-nice-labor-day/#comments Tue, 04 Sep 2001 14:03:51 +0000 https://dfarq.homeip.net/?p=645 Yesterday was nice. I got up late, then bummed around all day. I did a couple of loads of laundry, and I put a different hard drive in my Duron-750. Then I ignored my e-mail, ignored the site for the most part, and installed Wintendo (er, Windows Me) and Baseball Mogul. Around 6 I went out and bought a CD changer. My old 25-disc Pioneer died around Christmas time and I never got around to replacing it until now.

I found this link yesterday. Its main thrust is troubleshooting nVidia 3D acceleration, but it also provides some generally useful tweakage. For example:
