Possibly the first Apache worm

Last Updated on September 30, 2010 by Dave Farquhar

I just found this article describing a worm that attempts to infect vulnerable Apache servers running on FreeBSD.
This doesn’t have much effect on Linux or other Unix variants (other than probably crashing lots of Apache sessions, which the machine may or may not recover gracefully from) but chances are this is just a harbinger of things to come.

You should upgrade to Apache 1.3.26 or Apache 2.0.39 immediately to avoid any problems, especially if you use FreeBSD. I’ve been running version 1.3.26 on Debian here for about a week without any issues, as I’ve come to expect from Apache.

If you found this post informative or helpful, please share it!

It appears that there may be hope for you yet, Thomas. Perhaps you are not as nescient as you appear. But now I risk appearing unctuous.

Some day R. Collins and I will tell the true story of why David’s web site was down – despite our sang-froid – whilst he was away. Our probity will be confirmed.

I bet having to look up all those big words on dictionary.com is time consuming Jacques. But then what else does a silly Frenchman have to do?

Ah, well, I guess I should withdraw my “perhaps” in regards to your nescience, Thomas. I guess it would surprise you to learn that I am often a contributor to dictionary.com. They tend to miss some of my more commonly-used words. Speaking of “common”, I’m sure you at least understand the meaning THAT word.

Oh yes I’m familiar with that word. It is I belive what all Frenchmen are, if I’m not mistaken. Oh and dictionary.com has never heard of you, but they are willing to pay me to keep this going, so you visit and drive their traffic up.

I will not further your attempts at ad hominum attacks. Perhaps if you had the email addresses of the executives at dictionary.com, you would have found your answers. But I cannot help those who would email a webmaster account to inquire about high-demand, privately-held consultants.

I will take your futile attempt at injuring my character as a further sign of the failure of the American educational system.

It doesn’t take much to injure the character of a so called “Frech Nobelman”. But alas, no one at Dictionary.com has ever heard of you, and I did check with the higher ups. Do you think that an American stops at the lowly level of “webmaster” when trying to gather info? Tisk tisk Jacques, you are truly a “Frenchie”. Go back to your Jerry Lewis movies and leave the big words alone, they are causing you great distress.
