Nano Metalfigs scale

Last Updated on March 2, 2020 by Dave Farquhar

Jada Toys, maker of diecast vehicles, recently started releasing diecast figures for various licensed properties, including super heroes, Disney properties, professional wrestling, Harry Potter, and just about everything else imaginable. As a toy train hobbyist, of course my first question was, what scale are they? So let’s work out Nano Metalfigs scale together.

The figures are approximately 1.65 inches tall. We’ll work off the assumption that the figures are supposed to represent a human being about six feet tall. So when we divide 1.65 by six, we get 0.275. That means 0.275 inches represents one foot. So when we divide 12 by 0.275, we get 43.64.

That tells me that Jada intends for these figures to be approximately 1:43 scale, or thereabouts.

Nano Metalfigs and trains

1:43 scale is a little oversize for Lionel trains but certainly in the ballpark. Lionel hobbyists have been using 1:43 diecast vehicles for years, due to lack of 1:48 vehicles. If you happen to have the Lionel Harry Potter train from a few years ago, you’ll be happy to have the Nano Metalfigs Harry Potter figures.

The figures are inexpensive, and if you want Superman on your layout, here’s your chance. If you don’t want Superman on your layout, a number of the figures are generic enough that you can use them as-is. To someone unfamiliar with whatever series they came from, they just look like people in overcoats.

If scale fidelity is your priority, these figures aren’t for you. But if you like a bit of whimsy, you can’t go wrong with these. Nano Metalfigs scale is close enough. And companies like MTH or Lionel aren’t ever going to license these properties.
