Hi Matt. If the train will run at all, your wiring is correct. That sounds like the 999’s reverse unit is acting up. Sometimes picking up the engine and shaking it (yes, I’m serious) will free it up and get it working. I would give that a try first. I have written quite a bit on fixing Marx locomotives. Number 1549. Not sure on how to wire controllers. Can get engine to go backward when I wire straight to track pieces , but won’t go forward. Used meter, no power on exit end of controller to straight/circle piece of track that takes train in to depot.. do you have instructions for set up. I am sure it is a early 1950 Marx train set.
