I like the term “synthetic” for FPGA hardware. It synthesizes the hardware you want to re-create, but you can reboot it to synthesize something else.

Reminds me of leather. Everyone recognizes the advantages of real leather, but its much harder to care for and expensive, so the faux leather stuff is everywhere.

People will say “use a virtual machine” but even here you will come across a host of problems with many titles, and that is before you factor in the necessity of having a working version of the operating system in question to install on the virtual machine.

I am sure there are techy ways to deal with this issue, but nothing that comes near the ease of use of most emulators available for just about any other machine.
