In reply to Aaron. I built mine. I imagine I'll move the server over to a more powerful machine later this year, but $1450 is way more than you need to spend. My future server is probably an HP Z200 workstation, which has an i5-2500 CPU in it. HP Z workstations use a server chipset, so they're very robust. You can pick one of those up for $125 (or get an equivalent Dell if you like Dell better), throw an SSD in it, and have a great personal web server.

I have the opportunity to purchase two dell r720 poweredge servers for $1450.00 or would you suggest building a custom pc?

In reply to gregorylynn1974. I loaded a plugin so Wordpress can use Gmail to send mail to get around them blocking SMTP outbound. Or if your ISP provides an SMTP server, you can configure whatever you're running to send e-mail through that instead.

What do you do about email for your domain if they block port 80?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your experience with the web. I run my own Webserver now on my laptop. I have installed Magento 2 on it. Actually my project is still in development. So no one will visit the page instead of me 🙂

I use WampServer 3.x.
