Get Acronis for free

There isn’t much time left, and I apologize, but for the rest of the day, you can get the home version of Acronis for free. Details at the link. It’s not a bad idea to be familiar with Acronis, since it’s so widely used by businesses. Getting it and using it on your home PCs will get you some relevant experience. I’m not sure what the differences are between the home and business versions (I haven’t seen the home version yet myself), but using it will put you in position to figure it out. And you can’t beat the price, right?

I just downloaded and installed Acronis, but had to uninstall it without getting to use it. After installing Acronis and successfully registering the program, when ever I ran the program on my Windows 7 x64 system, Windows blue screened and did a memory dump. I have not had Windows blue screen since I ran XP on a regular basis, and that was a rarity. Unfortunately, uninstalling Acronis was not as straight forward as I would have liked. When ever I ran the uninstallation process via Window 7’s control panel, Windows blue screened. I had to boot the system into Safe Mode and then tweak the registry in order to allow the Windows Installation Service to run in Safe Mode. Wish it had worked out as I would have liked to have used Acronis to gain some familiarity with it.

Aieee! I guess I’m glad I hadn’t gotten around to installing it yet. I haven’t bluescreened my AMD64 system yet and wouldn’t have wanted to break it in tonight.
