If you’re in the market for anything that uses flash memory–USB thumb drives, memory cards, SSDs–this is a good time to buy. Toshiba is cutting its production by 30%, citing oversupply in the market.
So right now, supply is higher than demand, so prices are low. That would explain why we’re seeing SSD prices below $1 per GB now, rather than later in the year. Some drives are priced well below $1 per gigabyte. Flash drives and memory cards are cheaper still–not quite 50 cents per GB, but close.
I’m in the market for one or two 32 GB SDHC cards. I guess that means the time to buy is now.
