What’s interesting to me as a British (well, Welsh) person is how different the US computer magazines of the 80s and 90s were to the ones on our side of the pond.

We had dozens of magazines for all formats but they often resembled football fanzines or the music press more than “Byte” or “Macworld”. The US magazines, which you could occasionally get here as well, always seemed dry, technical and corporate – for at serious grown-ups doing serious things.

British magazines were more irreverent and whimsical, with bizarre running jokes and crazy letters pages. With rare exceptions they were clearly aimed at adolescents and students, not middle managers from the IT department.
