They aren’t worth the savings. They don’t stay together very well, the plastic isn’t very good, and they have to rely on specialty pieces and glitz to sell to kids. Been there, got the Tshirt. Save your money for the real deal.

I raised two sons (currently 20 & 16) almost entirely on LEGO. It was my go-to present for birthdays and Christmas for years. I even encouraged them to return the favor for my presents, and we spent countless hours building “stuff”. Last winter, as a challenge to ourselves, we built every LEGO kit we have, and counted over 300 various kits, and that wasn’t including the Bionicle line.

We’ve kept all the instructions, and still have a LEGO station in the basement for when younger kids come to play. We sort the pieces by kind (OCD!), which makes clean up a bit harder, but specific pieces are very easy to locate.
