So the Stingy Scottish Miser Chronicles continue. Yesterday my wife and I went shopping for thermal (also known as blackout) curtains. I’d read about them in comments on financial blogs but never saw much else in the way of first-person testimony about them.
I figure one day’s worth of experience with them is better than no information at all.

So I’ve been working 50+ hours a week. So the range in the kitchen breaks. All I want is the problem solved, quickly and easily. The range is old. Judging from the styling, I was probably in grade school when it was new. It’s probably well over 20 years old. There’s probably not much point in fixing something that old. But I’d sure like to get a new one just like it, only with automatic shutoff and the other modern conveniences.

I am Scottish. I try to stretch nickels into dollars. Sometimes it’s because I feel the need, but sometimes I do it just to see if I can.
Don’t try to insult me by calling me a stingy miser. It won’t work, because I’ll take it as a compliment.
And yes, this has something to do with Scotch tape.

So if you’re a CEO of one of the Big Three automakers, you have to fly a private plane, as corporate policy, for safety reasons.
Congress suggested they save money by flying first class, or plane-pool at the very least.

So I’m only a week into the family budget and I’ve already cheated on it. Look inside the envelope containing my lunch money, and you’ll find $8, a few loose coins, and an I.O.U. for $30.
I can explain. Really.

My wife and I went shopping for a new kitchen floor tonight.
I think we may have found perfection.

I think my hot water heater died today. I thought my shower seemed colder than usual today, and in the late afternoon my wife reported no hot water in the kitchen.
It could be something simple, but even if it is, it’s time.

Well, it’s been just over a year since I was laid off from the only job I was ever willing to relocate for. Layoffs are never fun. Looking back, with the perspective of a year and two days now, it was the best thing that could have happened to me.
But I’ll be honest: That doesn’t make it hurt much less. But I know the shoes I was in a year ago try on someone new every day, and every year around this time, one or more of my former coworkers finds themselves in those shoes. I don’t know if I can help, but I’m going to try.

Dennis Rader, the confessed BTK serial killer, blamed the killings today on a demon inside him.
I don’t know if he was speaking literally or figuratively.
I believe in demons. I also believe in cop-outs.

Paint.NET got Slashdotted today (here’s a list of mirrors ) and instantly it was hailed as the killer of Gimp, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, and probably every other graphics program ever made.
Of course I had to try it out immediately.
